Our client is currently seeking one (1) Regional Finance Manager, Planning & Reporting.  This is a permanent opportunity scheduled to begin in March.  This position reports to the Regional Financial Controller, Canada.


The Regional Finance team for Canada operates from Calgary and consists of operational, commercial and strategic finance professionals. This position will lead and enhance Canadian regional reporting solutions and support Global initiatives. Responsibilities include financial accounting, statutory reporting, reporting process, budgeting and planning process and balance sheet integrity.


Key Responsibilities



  • Lead the Financial Reporting process – monthly, half and full year-end. Coordination of timely and accurate month-end processes across Canadian region;

  • Review Balance Sheet reconciliations and perform verification process and analysis;

  • Manage day-to-day Corporate accounting processes and reconciliation procedures;

  • Responsible for communication of new and amended accounting policies to the Regional Finance Group;

  • Manage the External and Internal Audit process. Provide support and key liaison with auditors;

  • Work closely with Group Finance on the development and maintenance of internal control framework;

  • Lead the monthly and quarterly Management Reporting process - consistent, accurate and timely information to management for decision-making purposes;

  • Actively manage and improve the Canadian financial planning process;

  • Manage Budgeting, Forecast and Outlooks for Canadian Region;

  • Ensure the accurate and timely consolidation of financial and statistical information across the Canadian region, recognizing the complexity arising from the multi-location and CSG nature of the business;

  • Review and analyze monthly financial results, including key performance indicators and trends, comparison of budget/outlook/forecast to actual;

  • Act as key contact between Canada Regional Office and Operational Finance;

  • Coordinate Regional Office and Sub-Region overhead analysis and reporting process;

  • Review and analyze GL variance analysis;

  • Present regional-level summary reporting to Senior Management and Group Finance as required;

  • Identify and contribute to the ongoing development of systems and processes to enhance reporting and planning capabilities, including implementation of more frequent forecasting capability and delivery of deeper information for decision support;

  • Provide leadership and coaching to direct reports; maintain and develop competencies through training, recruiting and succession planning.


Skills and Qualifications



  • CA designation - Must have either Big Four accounting firm or publicly traded company experience – both would be preferable;

  • Min 7 years post-qualification experience in a multi-entity, large corporate environment;

  • Strong technical and analytical accounting skills, specifically in the areas of financial modeling and reporting;

  • Expert technical understanding of GAAP and IFRS; maintains the highest professional ethics and standards;

  • Familiar with ERP and BI environments, specifically Oracle and Hyperion a plus;

  • Leadership skills - demonstrated managerial experience with a focus on continuous staff development and teamwork; motivates others to achieve personal excellence;

  • Proven ethical standards and uncompromising sense of integrity;

  • Positive change leader; exemplifies a “can do” attitude;

  • Outstanding communication skills - able to confidently engage with internal customers and key stakeholders to ensure the effective delivery of reporting and information requirements;

  • Highly organized, disciplined and productive.
