Career Profile: Colin Sutherland, CA, President and CEO of Nayarit Gold Inc.

Colin Sutherland spends a lot of time in the air. The 36-year-old CA is president and CEO of Nayarit Gold Inc., which owns property in the State of Nayarit, Mexico and Sutherland flies to the site every four to six weeks. “When I go to the office, it’s a 4,500 kilometre commute,” he says from his home in Halifax. Nayarit’s head office was in Toronto when he joined the company last June, but in an effort to minimize corporate overhead and accommodate their new top man, all corporate functions were moved to Halifax.

Q. I’m currently looking for a job and feeling out of sorts. I know that on paper (my resume) I show well — I have good skills, education and some excellent experience. The problem is at the interview stage where I get very nervous. I seem to just forget myself and let my doubts take over. I end up not presenting myself well and sometimes get a little defensive. Deep down I know I really don’t need to feel this way because I have a lot to offer. Help!

Offering a Counter Offer to an Employee Who Resigns
